Weston Outcasts club member Heath Birchenough was fishing an early morning low tide from the ledges at Ladye Bay, Clevedon. The tide had just started flooding when He had a good bite on his lug and squid bait. There have been a number of 2 to 4lb codling about and it was these that Heath was targeting so he had rigged up with a 30lb trace and size 2/0 Varivas Aberdeen hooks. As soon as he connected with the fish he realised it was a bigger class of fish then expected so he took his time and eventually beached this fantastic fish. He had been boat fishing the previous week and as soon as the fish was landed he realised his camera and scales were still in his boat bag! When weighed later in Veals, Old Market, it took the scales round to 26lb.
This is at least the fourth 20lb+ cod off the shore in the Bristol Channel this winter and along with boat specimens to 33lb it makes this the best winter in a long time for specimen cod
