Surespin 1010 Pro

STOP PRESS - NOW IN STOCK

Following on from the huge success of the original 11' 2 piece Surespin we realised that there was a demand for an up market bass lure fishing rod. From this idea the 1010 was conceived. Early design details were previewed in the Bass 2007 catalogue along with a hoped for delivery date of August/September. Alas as is the way with these things this date could not be kept but know in early October we have finally taken delivery of the final pre production sample.

As with the original design specification the 1010 is a 10'10'' three piece blank which is thinner and lighter than the 2 piece surespin but with a slightly crisper and more powerful action. The abbreviated cork handle is built around Daiwa's Tournament GraphiteGrip winch fitting which gives a smooth and comfortable grip around the reel foot. Balance is slightly in front of the reel so the rod sits nicely in the hand with the slim matt finished butt resting nicely against your forearm. The eight saltwater resistant gunsmoke single leg guides cone the line perfectly for good casting of lures between approx 15gms and 50gms.

With the final rod to hand and a box of lures in the car it seemed rude not to try the rod so it was off to Cornwall to see if it fished as well as it looked. To gauge the casting power the first lures to be tried were wedges of 28gm and 45gm both of which it cast very nicely. When punching the 45gm wedge into a head wind you could feel the rod flex down to the handle but it still recovered quickly and sent the lure a good distance seawards. The next test was with a range of plugs including a 9cm Angel Kiss. Despite this lure at 8gm being well below the 1010's stated casting weight it still cast it a good 25yds and you could feel the lure working through the rod. With the tide now flooding into a shallow bay a change of lure to a 128mm Sammy looked like a good idea and fortunately the bass liked this lure as well and on the second cast a fish of about 2.5lb nailed the lure. With a fish on the line the rod felt lovely and you could really feel what was happening at the other end of the braid. Whilst the 1010's tip is fine enough to handle casting light plugs it still has that degree of stiffness needed to work surface lures and the skipping action of the Sammy soon fooled several other bass before the tide came in to far and forced a retreat back to the car park.

Using the rod was the final proof that this version was the rod we wanted so Daiwa have been given the go ahead to put it into production and we now have the first batch in stock..
