About Breakaway
The Breakaway Tackle Development company was founded in 1974 by Nigel Forrest, Ian Gillespie and Norman Bickers. The word Breakaway is now used as a generic term for a lead weight with swivelling wires that hold as an anchor on the sea bed, but ‘breakaway’ upon retrieve. But it was Breakaway themselves that invented this concept and revolutionised sea angling as we know it. Breakaway also played a huge part in developing bait clips that enabled streamlined rigs that can be cast further. The Breakaway Impact shield was a hugely successful bait clip and held the hook captive in flight before water pressure on impact tipped it up and ejected the hook. Today, Breakaway make every conceivable item of terminal tackle including various different bait clips, links and beads as well as rig wallets, clothing and general accessories.
